Recent reports from various Indian states reveal a disturbing pattern of increasing suicide rates among military personnel, raising serious concerns about psychological well-being within the armed forces.
In a recent incident in Nagpur, an Air Force Sergeant reportedly died by suicide, marking another tragic addition to a growing trend of service-related mental health challenges. The 36-year-old Jaiwardhan Singh from Haryana took his own life during active duty, using his service weapon.
Preliminary investigations suggest that psychological stress played a major role in the incident. Colleagues reportedly indicated that Singh was struggling with mental health pressures, a sentiment echoed in similar recent cases.
Prior to this incident, another serviceman from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 178 Battalion, Prem Veer, also died by suicide using his service rifle. Additionally, two military personnel from separate states—Assam and Jharkhand—have recently ended their lives, further highlighting the systemic mental health challenges.
