Meta has introduced several new features for WhatsApp to enhance the app's usability and fostering more interactive conversations.
– Typing indicators enhance real-time communication –
One of the standout updates is the revamped Typing Indicator, offering users a clearer view of who is actively typing.
This feature replaces the traditional "Typing" notification with a visual display that includes the profile picture of the individual composing a message, accompanied by a "..." symbol.
This enhancement is particularly beneficial in group chats, where it can sometimes be challenging to identify who is typing.
The update will roll out to both iOS and Android users within days, promising an improved group-chat experience.
– iOS support update announced –
WhatsApp will discontinue support for iOS versions older than 15.1 from May 2025. Users must upgrade their devices to continue accessing the app. This change allows WhatsApp to utilise advanced APIs, ensuring smoother functionality on newer iOS versions.
– Voice message quick replies introduced –
WhatsApp's latest beta update for Android includes a quick reply feature for voice messages. This functionality enables users to respond instantly by tapping a reply button next to the voice message they are listening to. The update streamlines the process, linking replies directly to the original voice note for better conversation flow.
– Draft messages for interrupted conversations –
The new Draft Message feature allows users to save unfinished messages with a "Draft" label. This addition helps users revisit and complete conversations effortlessly, improving continuity in chats.
– Voice note transcription for quiet environments –
WhatsApp has introduced a Voice Note Transcription feature, enabling users to read voice messages instead of listening to them. The transcripts are generated directly on the user’s device, ensuring privacy with end-to-end encryption intact.
– Sticker pack sharing simplified –
iOS users can now share complete sticker packs with a single tap in the latest WhatsApp update, version 24.24.83. Previously exclusive to Android, this feature simplifies sharing by allowing users to send entire sticker collections in group or individual chats.
– Unread message reminders –
WhatsApp's new notification feature reminds users about unseen messages from frequently contacted individuals.
An internal algorithm prioritises reminders based on interaction frequency, ensuring no important messages are overlooked.
Beta testers already have access to this feature, with a wider rollout expected soon.
