WhatsApp, the popular social messaging platform owned by Meta, has rolled out a new reminder notification feature for unseen Status updates
This feature, previously under testing, is now accessible to Android users enrolled in WhatsApp’s beta program. The feature, available in beta version 2.24.25.29 of WhatsApp for Android, sends reminder notifications for unread messages and unseen Status updates.
Users interested in enabling or disabling the feature can navigate to the "Settings" menu, tap "Notifications", and proceed to the "Reminders" menu.
According to WABetaInfo, the selection of contacts for these notifications relies on an internal algorithm. This algorithm prioritises contacts with whom users interact most frequently. However, the algorithm resets if the user reinstalls the app, as the data is not saved in backups or on the server.
Although the feature is designed to notify users about updates from their most interacted contacts, some believe that an option to customise notifications for selected contacts would enhance its utility.
For those eager to try this update without waiting for the stable release, enrolling in the beta program provides early access.
