The Punjab government introduced on Sunday a free solar panel scheme in a bid to provide solar systems to citizens consuming up to 200 electricity units per month.
According to details, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced that households using 100 units per month would receive a 550-watt solar system under the scheme.
Citizens willing to apply through the dedicated portal would be required to submit their electricity bill reference number. Renters would also need a no-objection certificate (NOC) from property owners, with the solar panels being registered in the property owner's name.
The government planned a computerised draw to ensure transparency in this regard.
Citizens welcomed the scheme as a significant step toward energy sustainability and economic relief.
