A 35 per cent increase in paper prices over the past month has caused on Wednesday a sharp rise in the cost of books.
According to details, the higher paper costs doubled book prices, making education increasingly unaffordable for many. One of the citizens said: "My daughter studies in 9th grade, and my son is in 5th."
The buyer said: "The cost of their books now exceeds my budget. Rates have doubled or tripled. A poor man cannot afford their fees and books."
Booksellers also highlighted the challenge. One of the shopkeepers noted, "Books that cost Rs30 earlier now sell for Rs400. A book priced at Rs200 last week has increased to Rs300 or Rs400 this week. The price surge is unbearable for many."
The parents urged the government to stabilise paper prices to ensure education remains accessible to their children.
