The Pakistan Army on Friday commemorated the 10th martyrdom anniversary of Major Wasif Hussain Shah, who embraced martyrdom during Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.
Major Wasif, a recipient of Sitara-e-Basalat, demonstrated exceptional courage during a terrorist attack on November 15, 2014, when militants launched a coordinated assault from three directions on a military post.
The officer, who hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, graduated from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul in 2002 and was promoted to the rank of Major in 2010.
Prior to his martyrdom, Major Wasif served with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Congo during 2011, where he rendered exemplary services for one year.
During Operation Zarb-e-Azb, despite sustaining two bullet wounds, Major Wasif continued to lead the defense of his post, successfully repelling the terrorist attack and inflicting significant casualties on the adversaries.
For his gallantry, Major Wasif was posthumously awarded Sitara-e-Basalat, one of Pakistan's prestigious military awards for courage in combat.
Major Wasif's military career included various operational deployments across North Waziristan, where he consistently displayed professional excellence in counter-terrorism operations.
