The Punjab government has laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art cattle market in Shahpur Kanjran, Lahore.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was officiated by Ibrahim Tariq Shafi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company (PCMMDC).
The new model cattle market, which is set to be completed within the next six months, will be constructed with an investment of 4.5 billion rupees. The construction contract has been awarded to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to ensure transparency and high standards of quality.
The project has aimed to transform the existing market into a modern facility equipped with contemporary amenities.
Among the key features of the new market will be spacious parking areas, an administrative officer block, a mosque, restrooms, hotels, and quarantine centers.
Additionally, the market will feature new, advanced livestock sheds and a dedicated arena for cattle shows, inspired by the cattle market models in Brazil.
The model market is designed to resolve longstanding issues such as parking shortages and inadequate facilities, providing both livestock traders and customers with a more efficient and comfortable experience.
The modernised market will also contribute to Pakistan's economy by supporting the country's meat exporters, thereby increasing foreign exchange earnings.
This project is expected to not only benefit Lahore residents but also improve the overall efficiency of the livestock sector in Punjab.
