Security forces carried out a successful intelligence-based operation in the general area of Miran Shah, North Waziristan, on November 12-13, targeting the reported presence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants - referred to as Khawarij militants- the military's media wing said on Wednesday.
The operation resulted in the death of eight terrorists, with six others sustaining injuries during the engagement.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the troops effectively engaged the militant hideout, neutralising the Khawarij.
"A sanitisation operation is currently underway in the area to ensure the elimination of any remaining militants," the statement added.
ISPR further emphasised that Pakistan's security forces remain resolute in their efforts to rid the country of terrorism and continue to target insurgents wherever they are found.
Four terrorists killed in Kech IBO
Earlier, security forces have successfully eliminated four terrorists, including a high-value target, terrorist ring leader Sana alias Baru in a major intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Kech District, Balochistan.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation, which was backed by actionable intelligence, saw an intense firefight between the troops and the terrorists. The deceased terrorists were linked to the so-called Majeed Brigade, a notorious militant group operating in the region.
Among them was Sana, who had been a focal recruitment agent for suicide bombers and was responsible for several deadly attacks. He was on the most-wanted list of law enforcement agencies in Pakistan.
In addition to neutralising the militants, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition during the operation. The authorities have initiated a sanitization operation to ensure no remaining terrorists are hiding in the area.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the success of the intelligence-based operation, calling it a significant blow to the militants' efforts to destabilize the region.
