The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved on Wednesday a reduction of Rs1.27 per unit in electricity prices for the month of September.
This decision came in response to a request submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for a fuel price adjustment.
According to the official statement, Nepra granted the price cut after reviewing the CPPA's petition. Initially, the CPPA had requested a decrease of Rs0.85 per unit, but NEPRA’s assessment led to a higher reduction of Rs1.27 per unit.
This price reduction will come as a relief for consumers as it reflects a decline in fuel costs that are used in power generation. The revised electricity prices will be applicable for the billing month of September.
The price adjustment follows a public hearing held last week, during which Nepra evaluated the fuel cost variations presented by the CPPA, ultimately deciding on the final price reduction.
