A security guard, who was arrested on suspicion of raping a student at a private college, has been released after the investigation failed to prove the allegation.
According to police reports on Thursday, the guard had been taken into custody from Sargodha following accusations of sexual assault by students. However, after thorough investigation, authorities stated that there was insufficient evidence to support the claim, leading to the guard’s release.
Meanwhile, the Lahore police has registered a case against 200 to 250 unidentified students and miscreants at the Harbanspura police station for vandalizing and burning motorcycles in protest over the alleged rape of the college student.
Tensions had flared as a protest erupted at the private college over the alleged rape incident. A group of students and unidentified individuals took to the streets, vandalizing property and burning motorcycles in an expression of outrage. The protest soon escalated into violence, with miscreants allegedly attacking the police with petrol bombs and setting vehicles belonging to six college employees on fire, the FIR claimed.
The complaint was filed by Sub-Inspector Usman Akbar. The FIR also details significant damage to college property during the unrest.
So far, authorities have arrested 24 individuals believed to be involved in the vandalism and the siege of the institution. The police are continuing efforts to identify other suspects who participated in the violence.
Local law enforcement officials condemned the use of petrol bombs against the police, while reiterating their commitment to restoring order in the area.
