WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will soon be available to users, following its recent beta testing.
The feature, currently accessible to select beta testers through the latest Android update (version 2.24.20.34), allows users to create and share events directly within community announcement groups.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the new functionality enables users to specify key details such as the date, time, and other relevant information related to events.
This streamlined approach is particularly beneficial for community administrators, who can now efficiently disseminate information to all community members without the need for additional sub-groups.
"An event can encompass any scheduled activity, meeting, or gathering organized by users," said a WhatsApp spokesperson. "This feature ensures that new members automatically receive information about upcoming events upon joining a community, enhancing their integration."
In a significant upgrade for community management, the announcement groups will now serve as a centralized hub where event details are clearly accessible. As only admins are permitted to send messages in these groups, the risk of vital information being lost among other conversations is minimised.
Furthermore, the ability to share events within announcement groups empowers admins to reach a broader audience more effectively.
"This feature eradicates the need for creating the same event across multiple group chats, allowing for better organization and communication," the spokesperson added.
The rollout of this feature is expected to take place over the coming weeks, allowing more users to benefit from enhanced community engagement. As WhatsApp continues to evolve, this update marks another step in Meta's ongoing efforts to improve user experience and foster effective communication within its platform.
