Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Amir etched his name into the record books during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, breaking India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record of 24 maiden overs in T20I cricket.
Amir, representing Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, has now bowled 25 maiden overs, placing him third in the all-time list of most maiden overs in the T20 format.
Amir, 32, achieved this feat while playing for the Falcons, surpassing Kumar in the record books.
West Indies’ off-spinner Sunil Narine leads the list, who holds the top spot with 30 maiden overs, followed by Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with 26.
Despite Antigua and Barbuda Falcons struggling in the competition, Amir has been in exceptional form, proving his mettle once again. The left-arm pacer has claimed five wickets in seven matches in the 2024 CPL.
Throughout his T20 career, Amir has taken 347 wickets in 302 matches, underlining his prowess in the game's shortest format.
Amir’s illustrious career includes several memorable performances, notably his role in Pakistan’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy victory. He was instrumental in dismantling India’s top-order, dismissing key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan in the final.
His performance paved the way for Pakistan’s commanding 180-run win over their arch-rivals.
The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are gearing up for their next match against St Lucia Kings on Monday, September 16. The Falcons have had a difficult run in the tournament, securing only one victory—a narrow six-run win against Trinbago Knight Riders on September 6. In their last encounter, they suffered a defeat against Barbados Royals on Thursday, September 12.
