The involvement of Pakistan Customs Service officers in the smuggling of Iranian oil has come to light, prompting the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to launch an investigation.
According to sources, the Chief Collector of Customs has ordered a thorough inquiry into the matter following the release of a list containing the names of 40 officers and officials accused of facilitating the illicit trade.
The FBR compiled the list based on confidential information, and the officers are suspected of helping smuggle Iranian oil from the Taftan border into Punjab.
Chief Collector of Customs, Rabab Sikandar, confirmed the development, stating, "We have received a list of names, and an investigation has been initiated to uncover the facts."
The FBR charge sheet indicates that the accused customs officers and officials played a significant role in the smuggling operations.
In response, the Chief Collector Punjab has directed further inquiries into the matter, with orders issued to the Collector of Allama Iqbal International Airport and the Collector Information Lahore to lead the investigation.
As the inquiry progresses, the Chief Collector Punjab has been instructed to keep the FBR informed of any findings. A fact-finding mission has also been launched to hold the involved officers accountable for their actions.
