Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor has extended his support to his former partner, Malaika Arora, following the tragic death of her father, Anil Mehta.
The incident - which occurred on September 11 - has brought the former couple together in a moment of personal grief and solidarity.
Malaika Arora, who was seen at her father’s funeral on Thursday morning, was accompanied by her son, Arhaan Khan. Arjun Kapoor, despite their recent breakup, was seen offering support and companionship during this difficult time.
The former couple, who ended their five-year relationship in July, reunited as they mourned the loss of Anil Mehta.
In a video from the funeral, Malaika, dressed in a white kurta and sporting chunky sunglasses to conceal her distress, was seen leaving the venue with Arhaan. Arjun Kapoor was visibly present throughout, alongside Bollywood stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor. The gathering also included Malaika's former husband, Arbaaz Khan, who attended to convey his condolences.
Arjun Kapoor had also been present the previous night, assisting Malaika as she left her mother’s Bandra residence. Reports suggest that Anil Mehta’s death might have been a suicide, although the circumstances are still under investigation by local police authorities.
According to statements from Malaika's family, Anil Mehta, who had reportedly been living with his estranged wife after a prior divorce, was found deceased under tragic circumstances. Foreign publications have noted that he was a regular morning presence on the balcony, reading newspapers, before his untimely demise.
The funeral rites were attended by a host of Bollywood celebrities, including Arshad Warsi, Geeta Kapur, and Terence Lewis, reflecting the significant impact Anil Mehta had on those around him.
In a statement released by Malaika Arora on Wednesday night, the family expressed their profound grief and requested privacy during this period of mourning.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time,” the statement read. “We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect.”
