Malaika's parents, Joyce Polycarp and Anil Arora, separated when she was 11 years old. In a previous interview with Filmfare, Malaika had spoken about her relationship with her parents, describing how the separation had a profound impact on her and her younger sister, Amrita, who was just six at the time.
Malaika also revealed that their mother played a primary role in raising them. Reflecting on those challenging years, she said, "I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn’t easy. Looking back, the word I would use to describe it is tumultuous. But tough times teach you important lessons."
Malaika credited her mother for instilling in her a strong work ethic and the importance of financial independence.
"My parents' separation allowed me to see my mother in a new light. I learned the importance of a rock-solid work ethic and the value of becoming fiercely independent. Those early lessons are the foundation of my life and career. I still value my independence and live life on my own terms," she shared.
