The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reinstated Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), suspending a prior decision that had annulled his appointment.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal, made the ruling after hearing an intra-court appeal challenging the removal of the NADRA chairman.
The appeal, filed against the caretaker government's notification of the chairman's appointment, was the central focus of the case.
During the proceedings, the court questioned which specific notification had been challenged in the petition.
The public advocate clarified that the application was restricted solely to the notification issued by the caretaker government and did not contest any new rules governing such appointments.
Previously, Justice Asim Hafeez of the Lahore High Court had declared the appointment of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar null and void.
The current ruling by the two-member bench has now reinstated Afsar to his position, pending further deliberation.
The petitioner argued that the court should overturn the single-bench decision that had removed Chairman NADRA from office, allowing him to resume his duties.
