Technology giant Apple has brought out its largest and most advanced display to date in the form of the Apple Watch Series 10, marking a significant leap in smartwatch history.
The latest edition made its appearance on Monday at Apple's annual event in Cupertino, with an all-new wide-angle OLED screen that is 40% larger than the predecessor, known as the Apple Watch Ultra, for extended use by the wearer.
Apple has designed its new OLED display largest fitted into any of its smartwatches with readability in mind. This way, it will let users more intuitively interact with features such as reading emails and messages.
This increased screen real estate will allow for bigger fonts without reducing the number of lines visible, which goes a long way in the view of the user in making it easier to view content on apps like Mail and Messages. Apart from that, the design of the watch was made with rounded corners for a larger aspect ratio to provide more comfort to its users.
Thinner yet more powerful in design
Hardware-wise, the Apple Watch Series 10 is 9.7mm thick, closer to 10% thinner than its predecessor, the Series 9. It manages to do this by shrinking some of the main components, including the digital crown and speaker system. The latter is now 30% smaller but doesn't sacrifice audio quality at all. This means one can enjoy music or podcasts straight from the speaker of the watch without hooking it up with wireless earphones.
The Series 10 returns Apple's popular Always On display-updated every second, including with a ticking second hand when the wrist is down. A new Flux watch face takes advantage of the larger display with dynamic colors to create an immersive user experience.
Faster charging and improved durability
Other significant enhancements include an increase in charging capability for the Series 10. With the newly integrated metal back for cellular performance, this device can reach a colossal 80% battery capacity in just 30 minutes. It is also resistant at 50 meters, making it ready for swimming or other kinds of water sports.
Besides the obvious aluminum casing, the company has announced its polished titanium choices in three colors: natural, gold, and dark slate gray. These are nearly 20% lighter compared with their stainless steel variants; strong but without any excess in weight. The Milanese Loop and the Classic Link bracelets have been redesigned to go with the new Titanium finishes so a bold and consistent look may be achieved.
Sustainability and performance
According to Apple's commitment to sustainability, the titanium model of the Series 10 was made with 95% recycled materials and manufactured using renewable electricity. The powerhouse behind this watch is the S10 SIP chip, which comes fitted with a neural engine that greatly boosts core functionalities such as Siri dictation and crash detection for greater efficiency and reliability.
But with these upgrades, the Series 10 Apple Watch is surely going to raise the bar for wearable technology by marrying elegant design with advanced performance for an unparalleled user experience.
