The parliamentary delegation's efforts to convince Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Sardar Akhtar Mengal to retract his resignation have been unsuccessful.
In a statement to the media, the BNP chief reaffirmed his decision to step down, citing persistent issues in Balochistan and the government's failure to address them adequately.
Mengal emphasised that despite repeated appeals from political leaders over the past five years, including representatives from the PML-N, People's Party, MQM, JUI, and the Balochistan Awami Party, his concerns regarding Balochistan's plight have not been properly addressed.
He criticised the government for failing to comprehend the gravity of issues such as the exploitation of Balochistan, enforced disappearances, and injustices that he has continually highlighted.
"I have made it clear that I have no intention of withdrawing my resignation at present," Mengal said.
He expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of understanding and responsiveness from successive administrations, adding that his efforts to raise awareness about the region's challenges have been indifferent.
The parliamentary delegation, led by Rana Sanaullah, had assured Mengal that his concerns would be conveyed to the Prime Minister. Sanaullah praised Mengal as a vital and dynamic voice for Balochistan, underscoring the importance of his role in advocating for the region.
In response to the government's request, the Speaker of the National Assembly has temporarily halted the processing of Mengal's resignation.
