Former Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik revealed on Thursday he rejected the offer of becoming the selector prior to the T20 World Cup, which happened in the Caribbean and United States jointly in June.
Addressing the press conference in Lahore, Malik said on Thursday that there is a need to work on the fitness of the fringe players.
"My purpose for accepting the role of becoming the mentor in the Champions Cup was to make the fringe players learn some things," he said.
"Whatever Pakistan has given to me through this role, I will try to pay back," he added.
Speaking about the upcoming Champions Cup, Malik said: "In this event, players from U-19 will also feature along with players of other age groups like 25-26."
"I will try to appoint the captain to the player who can contribute for Pakistan in the future," he added.
Malik said. "Ahmed Shehzad's name is included in the tournament, but Umar Akmal is not willing to feature in the tournament."
He reiterated: "I am not having any intention to play for Pakistan's T20 team. I had already taken retirement from the red-ball cricket and ODIs."
Recalling his experience to play for the Stallions in the domestic circuit in the past, "I have a lot of memories with the name Stallions and will deliver something big for this team as well."
