Rayo Vallecano announced on Monday the signing of Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez as a free agent.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who recently terminated his contract with Brazilian club Sao Paulo, joins the Madrid-based team as they celebrate their centenary year.
Rodriguez, who was named the player of the tournament after helping Colombia finish as runners-up in the Copa America this summer, is set to make a significant impact. The Spanish club described the signing as a major milestone in their "most special season," highlighting their 100 years of history, bravery, courage, and nobility.
Rodriguez previously gained prominence as the golden boot winner at the 2014 World Cup, which led Real Madrid to acquire him from Monaco. During his time at Madrid, he won two La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies. After two loan spells at Bayern Munich, Rodriguez left Madrid in 2020 for Everton and has since played in Qatar and Greece before his recent stint at Sao Paulo.
