Power Minister Awais Leghari predicted on Monday that the country will witness a major drop in the power tariffs within a year.
Expressing his thoughts, Leghari said: "The capacity payments have been increased with the depreciation of the rupees against the greenback. We are looking to reduce the capacity payments," Leghari said.
"The electricity distribution companies (Discos) lose up to Rs 600 billion annually," he added,

Separately, few days back, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori wrote a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and urged him to follow the footsteps of Punjab. He stressed the need for taking steps to provide relief to the people on electricity bills in Sindh as well.
In a letter written CM Murad, Tessori said: "The financial burden on the citizens can be reduced with relief in Sindh like Punjab".
He said that would also serve as an example of the Sindh government's unwavering commitment to public welfare.
“In the current economic situation, the benefits of relief will prove to be a very important step,” he added. The governor further said that he would wait for the positive response and initiative of the Sindh government.
