Pakistan has seen a spike in the unauthorized and illicit use of VPNs as a result of sporadic outages and sluggish internet speed.
The Ministry of Information Technology has received a proposal from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the early creation of a VPN policy.
PTA emphasized that VPNs would need to be registered rather than suspended. Millions of IT firms and independent contractors were utilizing VPNs, according to PTA sources.
Telecom consumers have begun using VPNs more frequently.
According to PTA, setting up a VPN is essential for protecting personal information and online safety. PTA has stated once more that VPN use will be controlled rather than outright prohibited.
There hasn't been a suspension of internet service or a decrease in internet speed in the nation, according to Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima.
Any perceived decrease in internet speed, according to her, might be attributed to the growing popularity of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
The media was notified by PTA Chairman, retired Maj Gen Hafeezur Rehman that the internet lag was caused by a damaged submarine cable.
He clarified that there is no such thing as firewall installation. "There will be no firewall installed."
Additionally, he made it clear that the government's online management system was being modernized and not a firewall.
