WhatsApp has begun rolling out a long-awaited feature that allows users to mark certain contacts and groups as favourites, following a recent update to its iOS version.
The Meta-owned messaging platform announced the introduction of the new feature with the release of WhatsApp for iOS 24.16.79 on the App Store.
The feature, which was first hinted at earlier this year, enables users to prioritise their most important chats by adding them to a favourites list. Once added, these favourites will be prominently displayed at the top of the calls tab, offering quicker access and serving as a filter for the chat list.
To utilise this feature, users can navigate to the app’s settings and access the newly introduced favourites section, where they can manage their list by rearranging, adding, or removing contacts and groups.
In addition to the favourite feature, the update also introduces an enhanced calling user interface (UI). The updated controls aim to be more intuitive, offering an improved user experience by making calling features easier to access and more reliable.
While the update has already begun rolling out, WhatsApp noted that the feature would gradually reach all users over the coming weeks.
