The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, originally scheduled to be held in Karachi, will now take place in Rawalpindi. This decision was made in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The match is set to be played from August 30 to September 3. The PCB explained that the ongoing construction work at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy, has influenced the decision.
By moving the Test to Rawalpindi, fans will have the opportunity to watch live cricket action in person, and the busy international season for Pakistan cricket will commence with both matches being played at the new venue.
The Pakistan team will feature in a total of 9 Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs from August 21 to April 5.
The PCB stated that, according to construction experts, ongoing work during match hours could lead to significant noise pollution, potentially disturbing players, officials, broadcasters, and media personnel. Moreover, smoke from the construction could affect health and well-being. To ensure the National Bank Stadium is fully prepared for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB consulted with all stakeholders and decided that both Tests would be held in Rawalpindi.
The PCB said, “At this stage, we would not like to speculate about hosting the second Test in Karachi from October 15 to 19. We will continue to work closely with architects and construction experts to ensure the safe hosting of the match.”
The first Test against Bangladesh will begin in Rawalpindi on August 21, while the second Test will start on August 30.
In related news, the Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh 'A' will continue their series in Islamabad. Following a drawn first four-day match, the second four-day match will commence on August 20 at the Islamabad Club, with three 50-over matches scheduled for August 26, 28, and 30.
