Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, who led Bangladesh for nearly 16 years, has announced her decision to retire from politics.
This decision comes in the wake of her resignation, following a month-long wave of protests against the quota system in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina stepped down from her position before the deadline set by the Army Chief and has since relocated to New Delhi, India. Reports suggest she plans to travel to London soon.
Speaking to the British media, Sajib Wajid, Sheikh Hasina's son, stated that his mother is deeply disheartened and has no intention of returning to the political arena.
Reflecting on her tenure, he highlighted that when Sheikh Hasina took office, Bangladesh was a struggling nation. Under her leadership, the country was transformed into one of Asia's emerging economies.
Defending his mother's government, Sajib Wajid asserted that the response to the protests was justified, emphasizing the progress Bangladesh made during Sheikh Hasina's rule.
