In a strong rebuke of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party's recent political protest, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin has denounced their actions on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal (Kashmir Exploitation Day).
The protest, led by Kashmiri leadership, was marked by calls for action against the Indian government's suspension of Article 370 in the disputed region of Kashmir.
Yasin, who serves as President of the People's Party Azad Kashmir, along with Sardar Atique Ahmed Khan, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, criticised PTI's stance in a video message issued on August 5.
The day is observed by Kashmiris around the globe and on both sides of the Line of Control as a day of protest and a black day against what they perceive as illegal Indian actions.
The statement from Yasin highlights the PTI's move as a "highly condemnable" effort that undermines state interests and the national agenda. He accused PTI of consistently taking actions detrimental to the state's interests.
During PTI's tenure, both Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and then-Prime Minister Imran Khan were criticized for failing to advance the Kashmir issue effectively on the international stage, according to Yasin.
