The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert to departments concerned for potential flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, along with storms and rain expected in southern Sindh areas.
The warning comes as monsoon rains from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are predicted to impact various parts of the country.
According to the National Emergency Operation Center of NDMA, monsoon rains have begun to enter the upper regions of Pakistan. These rains are expected to start affecting different areas within the next 24 hours and are likely to continue until July 27.
The NDMA's alert covers multiple regions across Pakistan:
Southern Sindh: Coastal areas, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, and Islamkot, are expected to experience wind storms and rain starting tonight.
South Punjab: Heavy rain is anticipated in areas like Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan.
Upper and central Punjab: Including the Potohar region.
Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: These areas are also on alert for heavy rainfall.
The NDMA has warned of potential flooding in various urban areas due to the heavy rains. Additionally, river flooding is a significant concern, and there is a high risk of landslides in the hilly regions.
The NDMA has urged all departments concerned to take necessary precautionary measures to mitigate the risks associated with the expected weather conditions.
