In a recent development, the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, has tested positive for COVID-19. This comes just days before President Joe Biden's scheduled trip to the Group of 20 (G20) summit in India, where world leaders are set to gather for critical discussions.
Jill Biden, 72 years old, is currently experiencing mild symptoms of the virus. Her last known COVID-19 infection was in August of the previous year. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden, now 80, tested negative for the virus as of the latest test, and his health is reportedly stable.
Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for the First Lady, issued a statement confirming the positive test, stating that Jill Biden will remain at their residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, while she recovers.
The White House also released a statement, explaining, "Following the First Lady’s positive test for COVID-19, President Biden was administered a COVID test this evening. The President tested negative. The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms."
As of now, it remains uncertain whether President Biden's foreign travel plans will be impacted by this development. His official schedule, which was released shortly after the announcement of Jill Biden's diagnosis, includes a trip to New Delhi to participate in the G20 summit, followed by a visit to Hanoi.
President Biden's re-election campaign for 2024 has been marked by discussions about his age, as he seeks a second term. Being the oldest president to seek re-election, his health and ability to serve as president have been subjects of debate among voters.
President Biden's supporters continue to assert that he is fit for the role, despite these health concerns.
