The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued an alert, forecasting heavy monsoon rains across Punjab from today until July 20. According to a spokesperson, most districts in the province will experience heavy rains accompanied by strong winds.
The PDMA spokesperson noted that the monsoon rains are expected to significantly reduce the prevailing heat and humidity across Punjab. However, the heavy downpours may also lead to flooding in rivers and canals, posing a risk to the affected areas.
In particular, south Punjab is anticipated to receive substantial rainfall between July 17 and 19, which could exacerbate the risk of flooding and related issues.
The director general of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized the need for major city administrations to remain vigilant and complete advance preparations to mitigate the impact of potential flooding and storm damage.
"Storms associated with these monsoon rains could damage electric poles and solar panels," Kathia warned, urging residents and authorities to take necessary precautions.
An alert has been issued to the concerned administration, advising them to take proactive measures to ensure public safety and minimize disruption. The PDMA has stressed the importance of preparedness and response plans to manage the situation effectively.
