Married women, moms, and divorcees can now apply to compete in Miss Universe Singapore's forthcoming annual beauty contest in 2024.
The shift, planned for September of this year, is an attempt by the organization to live up to its name and become a more inclusive place.
A specific group of women could only compete in the past. In addition to being limited to a specific age, they also had to be unmarried and single. A more healthy competition has replaced all of these restrictions.
Although the Miss Universe Organization officially lifted the top age limit in 2024, contestants must be at least 18 years old to compete in the event. They must also be based in Singapore and have lived there for at least six months before September 1, 2024, to be eligible for the Singapore edition.
But currently, 1.68 meters is the minimal height needed. In 2023, there was none.
Beyond Entity, a Malaysian firm with over ten years of pageantry experience, and King Kong Media Production, a regional entertainment company led by Singaporean actor Mark Lee, are organizing Miss Universe Singapore 2024 together.
The winner will represent Singapore on the international scene at Miss Universe 2024, which takes place in Mexico in September and will receive a $10,000 top prize.
Elaine Daly, the 2003 Miss Universe Malaysia and national director of MUS, stated in a statement: "This competition is more than just a crown. It serves as a forum for you to motivate and support issues that are important to you.
We are seeking not just beauty queens but future actresses as well, following in the footsteps of many renowned actresses who began their journeys as beauty queens.”
