The Islamabad High Court has put a stop to the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed until Thursday giving her the go-ahead to return home.
The decision was announced during a hearing concerning her recovery, presided over by Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb.
Sanam Javed, represented by her lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq, appeared before the court, alongside IG Islamabad.
The court ordered to submit the complete record of the PTI activist for the past year and delayed her arrest until Thursday.
Justice Aurangzeb warned Ms Javed made any public statement during this time, the court would take back its order.
The court also commended IG Islamabad for ensuring Sanam Javed’s presence in the court.
During the hearing, the PTI activist’s counsel argued that Islamabad Police had arrested his client outside his office. Justice Aurangzeb inquired about the charges against to which, Ashfaq said that she had been link to a May 9 case in Balochistan and was arrested on May 10 in Lahore.
The court ordered that Ms Javed must remain in Islamabad and refrain from making any statements until Thursday and instructed her parents to ensure she complies with this directive.
Later, the court adjourned the case until Thursday.
On Sunday, Sanam Javed was arrested once again, just hours after being acquitted by a local Islamabad court of charges brought by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
She had been released from custody following the court's decision in her favor. However, her freedom was short-lived as she was apprehended shortly after arriving at the office of her lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq.
Confirming the re-arrest on social media, Ashfaq stated that Islamabad police had taken Ms Javed into custody. He emphasized the importance of cooperating with law enforcement and said they had handed her over without resistance.
Mian Ali Ashfaq stated, “Sanam Javed has been re-arrested by Islamabad police. We have cooperated fully with the authorities, demonstrating the conduct expected of law-abiding citizens.”
The PTI activist’s re-arrest has raised questions and concerns among party supporters and the general public.
Earlier, an Islamabad district and sessions court on Sunday dismissed the case against the PTI activist Sanam Javed made over tweets on social media platform X.
The local court dismissed the case against PTI activist Sanam Javed. Duty Magistrate Malik Imran pronounced the reserved verdict on Sanam Javed's remand.
Previously, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) led by Justice Asjad Javed Gharal had discharged the PTI activist from the Gujranwala case.
In her plea, she challenged the physical remand issued in the Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) case, arguing that she was being unfairly targeted in politically motivated cases.
She claimed that she was repeatedly arrested in new cases immediately after being released from others. The PTI activist’s petition stated that the ongoing legal actions against her were politically driven and requested the court to dismiss the case.
The public prosecutor countered that Ms Javed was implicated based on statements linking her to incidents of arson on May 9, which are currently under investigation. Despite these claims, the court ruled in favor of Sanam Javed, discharging her from the Gujranwala case.
