The Kremlin has stated that it does not believe the US administration was behind the recent assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump, though it acknowledges that the political climate created by the administration may have contributed to the incident.
During a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the ear, and the attacker, who was killed by law enforcement, has not yet been identified.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the attempt to eliminate Trump was not orchestrated by current US authorities, but the prevailing atmosphere surrounding him could have provoked the attack.
President Joe Biden condemned the violence, and world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, expressed shock and wished Trump a speedy recovery.
The Russian foreign ministry used the incident to criticize US support for Ukraine, suggesting that funds would be better spent on improving domestic law enforcement.
Despite the attack, there are no plans for Russian President Putin to contact Trump, and the Kremlin emphasized that the legitimacy of the upcoming US election is not for them to judge.
