The Met Department has forecasted heavy rains in 24 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from Wednesday, with the weather likely to remain wet and stormy until Monday.
The expected downpour will be accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. Starting July 10, monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea are predicted to enter the upper regions of the province, leading to significant rainfall.
Rain forecasts for key areas
- Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner: These districts are expected to experience heavy rains.
- Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar: Intermittent rain is likely in these areas.
- Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan: These districts are forecasted to have rain accompanied by strong winds.
There is a significant risk of traffic disruptions due to landslides in the mountainous regions. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all district administrations, highlighting fears of monsoon rains and potential glacier eruptions, putting 11 districts at high risk.
Residents and travellers in these areas are advised to stay updated with weather reports and follow any instructions issued by local authorities to ensure their safety during this period of adverse weather conditions.
