In a tragic incident in Bajaur, a remote-controlled explosion claimed the lives of three individuals, including former senator Hidayatullah Khan.
DSP Bakht Munir reported that Hidayatullah's car was targeted in the Duma Dola area of Tehsil Mamond.
The Bajaur police confirmed that Hidayatullah, brother of former governor Shaukatullah, had been in the area for the election campaign related to the provincial constituency PK-22 by-elections.
The explosion also resulted in the deaths of Malik Irfan from Niagbanda and Nazar Deen from Navgai. Hidayatullah Khan, who had been returning to the headquarters after the campaign, was targeted on his way back.
He was the younger brother of former Governor Shaukatullah and the son of former MNA Haji Bismillah Khan. Additionally, he was related to the independent candidate for constituency PK-22, being the uncle of Najeebullah Khan.
Hidayatullah Khan had served as an independent senator from FATA from 2012 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2024. He was also the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation and a member of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).
The incident has shocked the community and raised concerns over the security situation in the region.
