Oman has been selected as the host nation for the esteemed FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier, scheduled to take place in Muscat from January 15 to 21, 2024.
Dr Marwan Al Juma, President of the Oman Hockey Association (OHA) expressed his delight in securing the hosting rights after the FIH decided to relocate the tournament from Pakistan.
He said: "It is a prestigious tournament, and we are happy to host it just ahead of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup, commencing on January 24, 2024. Oman will shine brightly on the global hockey stage in January, and I extend my gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for their unwavering support."
In addition to Oman, the other three FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers will be held in China (women's) from January 15 to 21, 2024, and Spain (both women's and men's) from January 13 to 21, 2024.
These qualifiers will determine six women's and six men's teams that will earn their spots at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Qualifying teams from Oceania and Europe have already been determined.
Australia and the Netherlands secured their places in the women's and men's categories by winning the 2023 Oceania Cup and EuroHockey Championships, respectively, in addition to joining the host nation, France.
The remaining teams that will directly qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics (3 women's and 3 men's teams) will be determined through ongoing competitions such as the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the upcoming Pan American Games, and the African Hockey Road to Paris tournament.
