In a significant development, Australia's Cricket World Cup squad has seen a change as Marnus Labuschagne steps in, replacing spinner Ashton Agar, who sustained a calf injury.
This alteration represents the sole adjustment to the provisional 15-man roster that Australia unveiled earlier this month, and it comes as Travis Head retains his spot in the squad despite being sidelined for the start of the tournament due to a hand injury.
Australia, the five-time champions, will embark on their World Cup journey in India, where they will rely primarily on Adam Zampa as their specialist spinner. Leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and all-rounder Matt Short will remain with the squad until at least the conclusion of the warm-up matches.

Labuschagne's inclusion is a well-deserved reward for his exceptional performance in the recent ODI series against South Africa and India. Across eight innings, he maintained an impressive average of 60, with a century and two fifties to his name. Labuschagne's addition strengthens Australia's batting lineup, compensating for the absence of Travis Head, who is expected to wear a cast on his left hand for the next four weeks.
George Bailey, the chief selector, explained the rationale behind retaining Head, saying, "We have made the decision to carry Travis through the early stages with the aim of him being available around the mid-part of the tournament. He has been a really important player in this ODI team, and we are hopeful his return can provide a positive impetus as it gets to the business end of the tournament."
As for Ashton Agar, who played a pivotal role in the first ODI against South Africa earlier this month, his calf injury forced him to miss the subsequent two matches, and he returned home for the birth of his child. Bailey acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating, "This was a tough call, but unfortunately, we couldn't carry both Travis and Ashton into the tournament with the injuries they have."
Australia's campaign in the Cricket World Cup kicks off with a match against hosts India in Chennai on October 8.
