Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, began a major meeting of the ruling party on Friday, state media KCNA said. According to Reuters, the summit took place just over a week after Pyongyang and Moscow signed a military defence agreement that alarmed the US.
Five items on the agenda were approved during the 10th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, which was held on Friday, according to the KCNA, without going into detail about the agenda.
To "review the work done in the first half of the year and decide a series of important immediate issues arising," Kim chaired the meeting, according to the statement.
On June 19, the leaders of North Korea and Russia renewed a deal they had struck in Pyongyang during the Cold War, promising to support each other militarily in the case of an attack.
