As Eidul Azha 2024 draws near, Pakistan braces for intense heat during the festive days, but the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) offers a glimmer of hope with predictions of rain showers following the celebrations.
The early onset of the monsoon season is expected to provide much-needed respite from the sweltering conditions.
The PMD has forecast two episodes of rainfall across the country in late June, suggesting the monsoon season may arrive sooner than usual. This early arrival is anticipated to bring down the soaring temperatures and provide relief to millions of Pakistanis celebrating Eid-ul-Azha.
An official from the Meteorological Department, speaking on the condition of anonymity, elaborated on the forecast. "We expect the Eid days to be quite hot, with temperatures soaring across most regions.
However, we also predict that rain showers will follow shortly after Eid, which will bring significant relief from the heat."
The anticipation of rain is a welcome development for many, as Pakistan has been experiencing higher-than-average temperatures in recent weeks. The expected monsoon rains are likely to provide not only cooler weather but also essential water for agriculture and domestic use, crucial for a country heavily dependent on its monsoon season.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat during the Eid holidays. Authorities have also been urged to prepare for potential rain-induced challenges, such as urban flooding, particularly in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, where drainage systems can be overwhelmed by sudden downpours.
