The Islamabad High Court was informed on Wednesday about the recovery of the kidnapped Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad.
The attorney general for Pakistan (AGP) briefed the court that Farhad, who had been reported missing, has been located and is currently in the custody of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police.
During the hearing of the case regarding the disappearance of the poet, the AGP presented a report from the Dhirkot police station in AJK, confirming Farhad's arrest.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his detention and the reasons for his arrest have yet to be fully disclosed.
The court expressed relief over the recovery of Farhad, who had been a subject of widespread concern among literary circles and the general public.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC conducted the hearing on the petition of Ain Naqvi, the wife of the allegedly kidnapped poet. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and AGP Mansoor Usman Awan were present in the court.
Addressing the law minister, the court asked him why he was standing on the other side when he was appointed as a judicial assistant. The minister said he would follow any orders the court gave. Justice Kayani remarked that the matter was resolved as he came to the court.
The judge further said that no one had any enmity with the agencies, and the entire nation stood with the armed forces. He added that the court has raised some questions, which were yet to be answered. "We only ask to act according to the law. We believe that institutions will get used to working under the law," he added.
Justice Kayani asked what the process was if intelligence agencies picked someone up. The law minister said there was some content on social media that were not appropriate. At this, Justice Kayani remarked that he neither accessed social media nor watched TV.
"Ask Ahmed Farhad's family, and the case will be disposed of. I will send the file for the formation of a larger bench on the missing persons issue," he remarked.
