Noted Malaysian footballer Faisal Halim was discharged from the hospital on Saturday following multiple surgeries for severe burns sustained in an acid attack.
According to details, the attack, which occurred at a shopping mall outside Kuala Lumpur on May 5, left Halim with burns on his neck, shoulder, hands, and chest.
Selangor FC CEO Johan Kamal Hamidon confirmed Halim’s discharge and mentioned that a separate media session would be scheduled once the player was ready. Team doctor Muhammad Hazwan Khair reported that Halim's three-hour skin allograft surgery on Monday went "better than expected." Shahril Mokhtar, chairman of the club's technical committee, stated that Halim is recovering well and could return to the pitch as early as August.
Nicknamed "Mickey," the 26-year-old player is celebrated for scoring an equaliser against South Korea, voted the best goal of the 2023 Asian Cup.
Halim’s case is the most high-profile in a series of unrelated but alarming crimes against four top-flight Malaysian footballers this month, which have shocked and angered the nation. These incidents included a robbery, an attempted assault, and a burglary, affecting players Akhyar Rashid, Safiq Rahim, and Khuzaimi Piee, respectively.
Selangor FC had to pull out of the domestic season opener scheduled for May 10, citing the "series of criminal incidents and recent threats," though the league commenced the following day.
