Security Concerns Force RCB to Cancel Training Ahead of IPL Eliminator
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cancelled their practice session on Tuesday due to heightened security concerns surrounding their star batter, Virat Kohli, ahead of the crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) scheduled for Wednesday.
The Gujarat Police confirmed the decision, following the arrest of four individuals linked to possible terrorist activities, which significantly escalated the security alert. "Virat Kohli is a national treasure, and his security is our utmost priority," stated Vijay Singha Jwala, a senior police officer.
Kohli, who has been in exceptional form this season with 708 runs in 14 matches, is on the verge of becoming the first player to reach 8,000 IPL runs.
In light of the security threat, RCB opted to forego both the practice session and a scheduled press conference. In contrast, the Rajasthan Royals continued with their training as planned.
Security measures around RCB's hotel have been significantly intensified, with restricted access even for IPL management personnel. Additionally, a 'green corridor' was established to ensure the safe travel of the RR team between their hotel and the training ground.
The disruption affected several players, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Riyan Parag, who skipped the practice session. RR captain Sanju Samson also faced delays due to the stringent security protocols.
Despite these concerns, the IPL Eliminator between RCB and RR will proceed as scheduled on Wednesday, May 22, with security remaining the highest priority. The cricketing world watches closely as both teams prepare for this high-stakes encounter under unprecedented circumstances.
