Over the past decade, the Modi government in India has systematically targeted the country's largest minority population, Muslims.
The administration has taken all possible measures to curb the representation and political power of Muslims in India.
In addition, Muslim candidates are deliberately kept in the minority in government jobs and high-level civil service exams every year. Last year, only six Muslim candidates were selected for the Indian civil service.
Muslims, who constitute a 200 million-strong population in India, have seen their political power sabotaged by the so-called democratic Modi government. Recently, during his election campaign, Modi amplified his anti-Muslim rhetoric to further his political objectives.
Before 2014, there was some Muslim representation in the BJP, but this has diminished since Modi came to power. India has now become a state where Muslims are deliberately pushed towards backwardness. The Modi government’s hidden agenda behind erasing Muslim representation is to prevent them from demanding education, jobs, healthcare, and other basic facilities.
Under BJP rule, the representation of Muslims, who make up over 14 percent of India's population, has fallen to less than five percent. According to a government report, Muslims lag behind Hindus, Christians, and the lower castes in India in terms of literacy, income, and access to education.
The Modi government's hostility is such that it cannot tolerate the success of Indian Muslims at any cost. The BJP has left no stone unturned in making life difficult for Muslims in India.
