Apple is working on a more compact iPhone model that is likely to launch by 2025, the Information, which opened a new tab on Friday, citing three people with knowledge of the project, according to Reuters.
According to the report, the rumoured slimmer version will probably cost more than Apple's iPhone Pro Max and be released alongside the iPhone 17 in September 2025.
The source also stated that the Cupertino, California-based Corporation is now testing various designs for the device, code-named D23, which may contain Apple's most recent chipset, most likely the A19.
The anticipated redesign emphasizes how much Apple has to improve the iPhone, its best-selling product, given the intense competition it faces from Samsung Electronics worldwide and Honor and Huawei in China.
According to research firm International Data Corporation, Samsung led the smartphone market in the first three months of 2024 with a 20.8% share, followed by Apple with a 17.3% share.
Apple's iPhone revenue during the second quarter of its fiscal year dropped 10.5% to $45.96 billion.
According to the report, Apple also aims to discontinue its less costly iPhone Plus model and release a less costly iPhone in the spring of 2025 as a replacement for its iPhone SE.
The announcement comes with Apple's recent release of the iPad Pro, which features a new CPU designed for artificial intelligence computing. The company is racing to overtake its Big Tech competitors in this developing market.
