Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, expressed her lack of confidence in the court during the hearing of the £190 million reference case.
The hearing took place in Adiala Jail, with Judge Nasir Javed Rana presiding over the Accountability Court session.
The former first lady approached the rostrum at the start of the hearing and voiced her concerns.
She stated that the previous hearing was conducted without her presence, despite her waiting. “I am not a prisoner, but a victim of injustice. I don’t trust you like I didn’t trust previous judges,” she asserted, highlighting her dissatisfaction with the judicial process.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana clarified that the previous hearing was adjourned at the request of the jail administration and asked the lawyers if they had confidence in the court. While the lawyers affirmed their trust in the court, they requested time to consult with Bushra Bibi.
For an hour and a half, PTI founder Imran Khan and the lawyers explained the situation to Bushra Bibi. Eventually, she reconsidered and expressed her confidence in the court, albeit reluctantly. Her lawyer, Naeem Panjotha, noted that her main concern was the speed at which the trial was proceeding.
During the session, Bushra Bibi’s lawyers, filed a request for the case to be heard every 14 days, aligning it with the handling of other cases. The court accepted this request and adjourned the hearing until May 22, issuing notices on the application.
Interestingly, Bushra Bibi did not visit the family corner to meet Imran Khan or her sisters after the court proceedings. Instead, she chose to offer her Zuhr prayers in the courtroom, reflecting her solemn state of mind amidst the ongoing legal battle.
