Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel announced on Friday that he will leave the club at the end of the season, stating that he "couldn't agree on terms" for his stay.
In February, Bayern Munich and Tuchel mutually decided to part ways after a series of three consecutive losses left the team eight points behind eventual champion Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern's impressive journey to the Champions League semi-finals, where they narrowly lost to Real Madrid, along with the club's struggles to find Tuchel's replacement, prompted reconsideration from club executives.
Despite ongoing discussions, Tuchel confirmed his departure after Bayern's final game against Hoffenheim.
"We will stick to the agreement that we had in February," Tuchel told reporters. "We had talks, as you reported, but we couldn't agree on terms."
Reflecting on the season, Tuchel mentioned, "The longer the season goes on and the more you experience, the way we played against Arsenal and Real Madrid, it really glues you and the team together."
Tuchel's contract was initially set to run until 2025. However, German media reported that Tuchel sought an extension until 2026 if he were to remain with the club.
Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga victory, under the guidance of former Bayern player Xabi Alonso, ended Munich's 11-year title streak.
Despite expressing his preference to stay, the announcement of Tuchel's departure led to a futile search for a new coach. Potential candidates, including Xabi Alonso, former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, and former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick, reportedly declined the role.
