In a surprising turn of events, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has officially nominated Sheikh Waqas Akram, a Member of the National Assembly, for the position of Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
This development comes after initial nominations of Sher Afzal Marwat and Sahabzada Hamid Raza Khan, both from the opposition, were withdrawn.
Initially, Afzal Marwat and Sahabzada Hamid Raza Khan were proposed for the position. However, the nomination process took an unexpected twist when Sheikh Waqas Akram, a member of the National Assembly from the Sunni Ittehad Council, was officially put forward for the role.
This nomination came after Sheikh Waqas Akram was endorsed by the Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, with the approval of PTI founder and the political committee. Nevertheless, objections were raised, prompting a reconsideration of the decision. Consequently, the names of Sher Afzal and Sahibzada Hamid Raza were withdrawn from consideration.
It's been alleged that Sheikh Waqas Akram's nomination was a result of reservations from the government's side. Now, the Speaker of the National Assembly is expected to make the final decision regarding the appointment of the Chairman of the PAC.
