China has decided to extend its visa-free entry policy for citizens of 12 countries, including Malaysia, until the end of 2025.
This decision was announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the closing ceremony of the sixth session of the China-France Business Council on May 6, 2024.
The 12 countries covered by this extension include France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Initially introduced in November 2023 for selected European countries and Malaysia, the visa-free system was set to expire in November 2024. However, due to its success in boosting tourism and the economy, the extension was deemed necessary.
Since the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in 2023, China has experienced a steady increase in international tourist arrivals.
This extension is part of China's broader economic strategy to rejuvenate its economy through international tourism. Starting from mid-March 2024, citizens of Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Switzerland will benefit from relaxed visa rules and similar visa-free entries.
While additional pilot programs have been initiated for other European and Asian countries, Pakistan is yet to be included in the list of countries eligible for visa-free entry.
