In another jolt to the struggling masses, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced on Wednesday a significant increase in the electricity tariff.
Effective immediately, consumers will bear the brunt of an escalated cost of Rs2.83 per unit. The decision was made over an adjustment in March's monthly fuel charges, compelling consumers to brace themselves for a considerable surge in their electricity bills for the current month.
With this revision, the weight of an additional Rs26 billion is projected to be shouldered by consumers, adding to the mounting economic pressures faced by households and businesses nationwide.
However, the increased tariffs will not apply to Lifeline and K-Electric customers, sparing them from the immediate impact of this tariff adjustment.
