Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) central secretary information Faisal Karim Kundi stressed on Friday the need for denouncing trolls against women journalists.
In his message on the occasion of Press Freedom Day, Kundi acknowledged the role of journalists across the globe. “The journalists worldwide have sacrificed their lives. The most journalists were martyred in Gaza while performing their duties,” he added.
He made it clear that his party believed in press freedom and freedom of expression. “The law enacted by the Sindh government for the protection of journalists is exemplary,” Kundi said.
“The federal coalition government is also taking serious steps regarding journalists' rights,” he added.
Kundi said, “Threatening journalists for expressing dissent is highly inappropriate trolling.”
Stressing the need for carrying out responsible journalism, Kundi said: “Practicing responsible journalism alongside independent journalism is extremely vital in current circumstances. Undermining responsible journalism is an affront to one's profession and the nation.”
He highlighted the environmental challenges faced by the country. “The climate change has exacerbated Pakistan's problems, which must be acknowledged. The journalists should raise awareness among the public about the issues and their solutions arising from climate change,” Kundi said.
