A passenger arriving from Dubai had 977 grams of 24-carat gold worth 70.58 lakh Indian rupees confiscated by officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Tiruchirappalli airport in Tamil Nadu.
The officials claim that the three packs containing 1081 grams of paste-like substance in the passenger's rectum were where the gold was hidden.
The Air India Express passenger was en route from Dubai to Trichy. Further investigation is under progress, and the passenger has been placed under custody.
Earlier in March, 410 grams of gold worth 26.62 lakh Indian rupees were taken from a Singaporean traveller by Tiruchirappalli airport Air Intelligence Unit agents.
The officials stated that the gold that was taken into custody included 80 grams of 22-carat gold that was hidden inside the vest of a passenger who was travelling from Singapore to Trichy and 330 grams of 24-carat gold that was taken out of a paste-like substance.
